Confusion and Hard Questions

We tentatively picked the name Alex for our future son from China.  ( We have no news.  It's been a long and frustrating process.)  Meanwhile Kenton's sister Janelle is expecting a baby in January.  They plan to name her Abigail.

Janelle and co. were here recently and so there has been lots of talk about Baby Abigail.  I've been talking about how excited we are that Abigail is coming and we're putting some hand-me-downs away for her.

I started to suspect that Kaitlyn was confused.  She started talking about when Abigail gets here.  I tried to explain that Abigail is growing under Aunt Janelle's heart in her belly and that after she was born she was going to live with her mama and daddy and not with us.

It has been a day of tears and questions for her.

Is Abigail going to live here?  Why not?
Is Abigail from China?  Why not?
Is Alex coming soon?  I want him now.

And finally...

Is Alex growing in your belly?  Why not?

How do you answer that?

I'm not good with these questions.  And I really didn't expect to get hit with the hard ones from a three-year-old.   I thought I had lots of time to think these through.

  1. Oh--this makes my eyes well up and my throat get tight. Alex will be there when he's supposed to and Kaitlyn certainly keeps you on your toes. Love you!

(and new blog design is awesome, btw)

  2. Openly and honestly! We always answered in a way that was age appropriate, but always honestly. Just let them know also that whatever they are feeling is valid, ok and they are always loved. It's hard, but I'm sure you are doing awesome.

  3. Hey Holly,

For some reason I can't comment on your most recent blog. Wanted to let you know I am praying for you..I've been there and it is NOT fun, BUT things DO get better...promise. Call or email me if ya want to talk , OK? Love ya,

  4. Hi Holly, You are not alone. Holly if it is hormones try to eat raw red beats! I make a salad: I shred 1 beat, 1 potato, 1 apple, 1 carrot, 1 lemon, and honey.(RAW) Also you can shred 1 raw beat. Squeeze juice and drink it. Do it in the morning. Beats helps with hormones. For me helps four hours after I eat. Holly, I love you and I wish you the bast.
